Well I think we have all seen this logo;

Yes the UK Web Design Association, something to be aparently “Proud” to be in, a mark that all the UK Web Designers go crazy to slap on their website.
Ok, so Minute Designs has applied several times, 2 times rejected the last 2 times, totally ignored. Why?
No explanation, nothing, no response to the emails nothing.
Great right? How many of you guys have seen SHIT web design companies who think Web Standards are an old wifes tale?
So anyway, I’ve done a member search for Derbyshire, and here are the UKWDA “Professionals”;
http://www.1stclassconnections.co.uk
http://www.5gmarketing.co.uk (Domain up for sale, lol?)
http://www.artiss.co.uk (Some dudes blog?)
http://www.adamgnewton.co.uk (Not found)
http://www.acutecomputing.co.uk (Click contact us, Its actually an American Company, NOT UK)
http://www.bluestreakdesign.co.uk (Oh dear)
http://www.broadwave.co.uk (Some hope starting to shine through)
http://www.chalkoutline.net (Just threw up in my mouth, and 80 HTML Errors!)
http://www.chevinside.com (What the hell is THAT?)
http://www.chroma-it.co.uk (404, Sweet!)
http://www.cj-design.com (Below average, but HTML Strict Valid so /clap)
So, is there actually any point being in the UKWDA? It seems even if you are people are just going to get pissed off with all the shit sites / offline sites / blog sites and feel rather “Shafted”
Perhaps its worth starting a professional web designers association, a worldwide association paying respects to companies who actually know what HTML Valid, CSS Valid and WCAG WAI-A/AA/AAA are? A place for people looking for a Good Designer and can actually find them? Would require a great load of hefty framework, but what if?
For now, I wouldnt wipe my feet on that logo!
Right, I totally agree with your sentiments, we’ve worked hard on our skills, we always ensure our websites are w3c compliant and of great quality, yet when we’ve applied to join the “ukwda” we’ve been ignored 3 times! What a joke.
If you’re interested in actually starting a real association I’d be happy to work with you on it. That goes for anyone else reading this comment.
Possibly a Possibility there, although I would not plan on any association being free to join, it would be a yearly fee, and everyone who signed up would have their profile etc removed - and would need to resubmit so we can keep up.
Would be crap loads of work and would require some form of framework for it, unless we used Directory Software like on http://directory.freeseobacklinks.com
We will see! MD is Very busy right now, and also has its own main site in the redesign phase and this blog, since I’ve noticed comments where buggered on the last skin, had to resort to using a free WP Theme for now.
By the way how did you find our blog? UKWDA is a fairly old post
